Jaipur the food palace

Jaipur- the pink city of Rajasthan and also the capital. Jaipur is known for many things from food, clothing, jewels stones, handicrafts etc the list is never ending. If you are an explorer than my friend this is the right place for you to discover endless ancient and architectural monuments or places. Every street and corners is embroiled with broad avenues and spacious gardens. Jaipur has a great story to share with us and no scheduled sightseeing can even hope to do justice to this rare city. Best idea is to go rent a bike or car and ON your Google maps, and let get this exploring started.

My trip to Jaipur was really short and simple, had gone during March (hot and humid), so in case you are planning a trip make sure it’s during winters. So mine was a short weekend getaway, because your jobs don’t allow you to take holidays, so had to plan it during HOLI (where I got 3 days holiday). 🙂

Jaipur is well known for its food, they offer wide variety of dishes like: Dal Batti Churma, Mawa Kachori, Ghewar, Mirchi Bada, Rajasthani Subji (Gatte ki subji, Rajasthani curry, Mangori, Pakodi and Ker Sangari) and many more all you need is a good appetite and who can taste spicy Indian food. They have pretty lot of options ranging from spicy, to less spicy and too sweet. If you are a true foodie, you will love this place. How about I take you through the places I tried in Jaipur while I was travelling.

Al Bake Take-Away Veg & Non-Veg Restaurant

You get some amazing Shawarmas here, it is a place where you prefer a take away as the name suggest. Would recommend not to seat and eat there, as the place is small and not tidy, but a true Indian taste to Desi-Chicken Shawarma and some great Chicken Tandoori, they are delicious.

Street Kachori Wala

Tripolia Bazzar, (Hawa Mahal Lane- Entry Side)

I got my hands on Kachori, for one morning breakfast, and it was a little spicy but tasted yum. If you thinking what it is – kachori filled with mawa (onion, garlic and red chili) with some green chatni and sweet syrup. It goes well with tea or coffee; also too add you can surely try pakodi to go along. I tried this from a random street hawker, which I believe gives you the actual taste and feel of street food, but you can always try Rawat’s kachoris which is really famous.

Old Green Tandoori Dhaba

If you are anywhere near MI road, it’s a must visit street you will get an endless options of Dhaba for your amazing lunch/dinner. So one day I thought of trying the Dhabas, where they served good authentic Indian food. But make sure you read the signage board, as most of them are pure veg, so the first day I needed up eating veg, as I was really hungry and couldn’t think of changing the venue. You get good number of Mughlai, Punjabi dishes at this Dhaba; we had tried some butter chicken and butter roti, which compliments well with buttermilk (Chaas/Lassi). They also serve Tandoori Chicken, as they a big bhatti out there. But when it comes to hygiene it is not at all clean so would suggest rather take a delivery and eat at your hotel or guest house. But it is really pocket friendly.

Jal Mahal Ice Cream Parlour

This was something which was much needed, with all the sun strokes, humidity and annoying heat. So we ended up at this place during weekend, so it was really crowded, but a good place to seat around and have your bowl full of ice-cream. The best part is they had wide range of ice-cream selection and shakes to offer, so one cannot go sad without eating. I tried a big bowl of chocolate ice-cream, Chic Choc from the menu, and it was too filling and ice-creamlicious.

The Royal Treat

New Ramgarh Mod, Amer Road, Jaipur

Avoid going to this place, the service is really bad and would not recommend anybody to try their food. It’s a tourist trap; they will bill you for something which is not even in the menu or not even ordered, please make sure to check the bill before paying them. We ended up here as we were really hungry and didn’t have any option. The food quantity is very bad and taste is average. I know I shouldn’t be even mentioning about this, but wanted to tell you guy, if you happen to enter this place please take a U-turn within that second.

Well I could only figure out these places because of my short trip, but here are some more suggestions and recommendations:

Pandit Kulfi, the most famous Kulfi shop in Jaipur. The owner claims it to be 60 years old establishment.

Dal-baati-churma at a nominal expense, check out the dhabas near Sindhi Camp (Central) Bus Stand and Chokhi Dhani on Tonk Road.

Natraj offers grand Rajasthani Thalis like Mini Thali, Thali Raj, Thali Rajasthan, Thali Prince, Thali Royal, Thali Crown and Thali Season Special.

Samrat Kachori Wala Situated on Chaura Raasta Shop no. 273 in City area is very popular in locals for its Khasta urad dal Kachoris, Samosas and Jalebis.
