Coconut Island in Phuket
In recent years, Phuket’s tourism has grown magnificently in today’s time from local people to foreigners, but Thai people plan this gate away in these popular locations around them for the same reason foreigners come, including local cuisine and culture. Phuket is a place of itself and also a target point for all the other prominent small islands like koh phi phi, koh yao noi, koh racha noi, etc. Likewise, another island owned by Chris Gordon in Phuket namely, Koh Maphrao that translates simply into coconut island in English and also a delight of all the other island. The name of the island comes from the towering of big fat coconut trees packed on the edge of the island which is just 10 minutes away from Phuket, a part of koh Kaew sub district. You can reach here by boat from the north of the Phuket town at laem hin pier. Infact, you can see the island by your bare eyes when waiting for ride to coconut island and also the sunrise at Phang Nga if you are staying in east of Koh Maphrao.

The coconut island is an exclusive beach area where it is listed under the cleanest beach of Thailand, this has perfect spots for relaxfull beach vibe where there is no hush push of city life and party animals. This island is teemed with diversified crowd, animals and marine life. You can spot different kinds of marine animals laying on the sandy beach, like crabs, fish, shellfish, hermit crabs, etc. There are mainly two platforms on the islands here, one is on the west side which is used for transferring day trippers and tourists who are staying in resorts or glasshouse, on the other hand the platform on north is used by local fisherman. Despite being a few minutes away from the noisier, busier Phuket main city this island is exactly opposite in sense of calmness, peaceful atmosphere which is a perfect example of southern island in Thailand.
Local people come here seemingly to complete their daily routine in a world away from shopping malls, streets shopping. Yes!!! Coconut island does sound therapeutic for a perfect retreat. People come here to explore the nooks and chinks of the island to find a perfect spot for their sunbathing time or for a snorkeling adventure to notice the marine life. This laid back island offers a wide variety of accommodation options like cozy bungalows with a beach to 5 star resorts with a lot of choices in cuisines, food shacks and bars. They have taken care of all types of customers visiting in terms of duration, budget. So, this is another reason local people come here to spend time on weekends. There are total 3 beaches, one is on the western side, the second one is on the front of The Village Resort and the third one is on the east side of the island, which is the best beach for swimming than the other two.
On the east side of the island, tourists usually go for a refreshing swim as the water is translucent and the beach has white sand. Lots of other activities to do are hosted like, visiting to traditional fishing village, nature walking, cycling around the island and visiting the working pearl farm. If you are visiting this island then you should buy or fish some fishes as the area is surrounded by fishes which are exceptional in eating. You can always hire for the services of local for the whole day or half day fishing tour. Besides all that there are many such floating restaurants are seen in between when you are travelling to the coconut island. Even though you dont plan to go on this island but you can book a tour of these floating restaurants or ask long tail drivers to take you there, which serves delicious southern Thai dishes at a reasonable rate with an unique and chique setting, that will make you go ‘awwwweee’. An impressive limestone coastline perfect for exploring rock pools and engaging in scrambling activities, alongside a lush tropical forest ideal for hiking and mountain biking adventures. To reach Koh Maphrao, you can take a long tail boat from Laem Hin Pier for only 20 baht, or opt for a speed boat from Royal Phuket Marina for a slightly higher fare.
