The Top 10 Amritsar Famous Food Items
1. Langar Ka Prasad
I have started my Amritsar trip by visiting The Golden Temple. The best time to visit is in the morning when the Guru Granth Sahib is brought to the inner sanctum. After offering my prayers in the temple, I headed to Langar. This is the largest kitchen in the world that serves free meals to 50,000 – 1 lakh people daily. Its unlimited meals are simple and satisfying that include roti, sabzi, dal, and kheer. Dal in Amritsar is generally dark brown meaning Kali Dal, it is rare to find yellow dal across Amritsar.
Also, don’t forget Kara prasad, ghee dripping sweet, that you get when you are leaving the temple. Kara prasad is considered as a blessing you get from here.

No one can separate lassi from Punjab. So you must try special Amritsari lassi, so creamy and thick that you need a spoon to scoop it rather than to drink it. Made with churned yogurt, sugar, and lots of cream on top. You will be served a tall steel glass full of lassi after which your body and mind feel the coolness. Jalebi is a desert in Amritsar. It is seen in almost every shop in Amritsar. It is a spiral-shaped sweet, deep-fried in desi ghee and dipped in sugar syrup. You should taste the freshly made, hot, and crispy jalebis that give a boost to your culinary adventures. Personally, Jalebi is my favorite sweet and I can eat many of these if they taste delicious.
And I found that the famous place to eat in Amritsar for the jalebis is Gurdas Ram Jalebi Wala. They served only two items – Jalebi and Gulab-jamun. Between these two, it’s hard to choose one, because their Gulab-jamun is equally tasty. But I go for Amritsar famous food – Jalebi.

Paratha is an authentic Punjabi food and also a popular street-style food that can be eaten in all 3 meals of a day. It’s normally a layered flatbread of wheat flour only or stuffed with different vegetables such as potato, cauliflower, and also paneer. Any of these are extremely delicious.
